Help Your Neighbor
Welcome to the Help Your Neighbor Web site! The goal of this site is to provide you with information about volunteer opportunities in your community. Remember, all it takes to make a difference is just one hour a month.
To volunteer during an emergency, please contact your local volunteer center by dialing 211.
Assistance with Heating Bills
With natural gas prices on the rise, home-heating costs this winter will be higher than usual. If you need help with your heating bill this winter, the Division of Housing and Community Development's HEAT program can help.
To help others with their heating bills, contact your local volunteer center by dialing 211 or contact Dominion Energy.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and EITC Outreach
Help low-to moderate-income households keep more of what they earn and bring millions of Earned Income Tax Credit dollars into Utah's economy!
A little time can do a lot. Volunteering with the VITA is fun, easy, and rewarding. You do not need to be an accountant or have a finance background to participate. For those not interested in serving as a tax preparer, there are also non tax-oriented volunteer positions, including client greeter/screener roles, site assistants, site leaders, translators, financial resource specialists and IT managers. See our web site for more information.
In one volunteer hour, you can help return $1,300 to a hardworking family. On one Saturday of volunteering, you can return $5,200 to your community. Save low- to moderate-income families and individuals the cost of going to a professional tax preparer by volunteering as a tax preparation specialist. Receive free training in simple tax law with an emphasis on the credits available for low-income families. Choice of online, self-study, and hands-on training is available. Spanish speaking volunteers greatly needed.
